Ex Voto is the diary of the journey that led me to become a “Palermitana”, from my first visit looking for a home, to the present in my everyday life. I scoured the city on foot for months photographing places, often focusing on details and what is often overlooked.
I visited those places again and again, each time discovering something new. In my heart, I feel like an urban explorer.
In my practice I often combine my images with a specific container. For Ex Voto I worked with a local, family-owned, metal factory who produced a box specially for the project, (usually their boxes is associated with the conservation of tuna, for me an important reference relating to Sicily).
The project did coincide with Palermo Capital of Culture 2018 and will fund an educational campaign dedicated to the City triggered by my desire to create awareness for the environment through social awareness and mindful use of recycling materials.
